Our Walks groups enable members to get away from the buildings and tarmac of our city and out onto The Downs and into the fields and woods of the countryside. During the walks members also share their knowledge of trees, flowers, wildlife, geology and the local history of any villages and buildings that are passed.
The group travels by public transport to the start of the walks, which are usually 3-4 miles long depending on the terrain, and are conducted at a leisurely pace. However, the route usually involves walking across fields, over stiles, along uneven paths and tracks with varying slopes, which can be slippery when wet. Therefore members have to be reasonably fit and appropriately dressed to deal with these conditions.
Normally different group members offer to lead a walk during the course of a year (but there's no obligation to do so).
The walks take place on the last Thursday of the month.
Sorry but no dogs are allowed on any of our walks.
