'CHARLES II AND HIS ESCAPE THROUGH SUSSEX IN 1651'
by Helen Poole
This Talk will take a look at Charles II and his six weeks on the run after being defeated at the Battle of Worcester, until he finally escaped by ship from Shoreham, helped by loyal Sussex supporters.
Helen Poole studied history and archaeology at university and has retained a lifelong interest in these subjects. She worked in Sussex museums from 1991 and developed an enthusiasm for Charles II's escape while at the Marlipins in Shoreham. She currently acts as a steward at Firle Place, which in 1651 was a royalist home in the mainly Parliamentary East Sussex.
This meeting will be held at Ralli Hall (81 Denmark Villas, Hove, BN3 3TH). Arrive from 2.00pm onwards for a 2.30pm start.
