This group meets monthly in a local café to explore the local history of Hove. It is centred around shared learning.
One topic researched by the group was the building of Hove’s own ‘Glass Palace‘ in the 1830s, even before Crystal Palace in London was built. Just when the structure was about to be officially opened, 500 tons of snapping girders fell and buried themselves in the ground. The ruins lay there for 20 years and became a tourist attraction in their own right! (The photo shows an ink and wash drawing of the Palace in July 1833.)
